JWD Ltd is the trading name of Julian Worskett. My company offers general R&D and electronic design services to clients.

I have been trading since 1994, am a Chartered Engineer (IET) and hold a BSc Honours Degree in Communications Engineering obtained in 1986. Before starting my own company, I worked for Philips from the age of 19, then later at Marlborough Communications and Thales. I spent several years at Dstl in Kent as a contractor.

My main expertise is in RF and high frequency design to 77 GHz, including antennas, receivers, downconverters, synthesisers, demodulators and filters.

I also have 35 years experience in general electronics, including switched mode power supplies, battery technology, EMC, audio, video, control circuits and PIC microcontrollers.

Being a one man company, you will find me enthusiastic and highly efficient. I have been in electronics since I was ten and am proud to be an Engineer.  I enjoy "getting my hands dirty" but also have the academic ability to cope with the theory and carry out rigorous scientific research.

I carry a large stock of standard electronic components and more specialised surface mount RF components, so I can start building things right away. I can handle components down to 0402 size and solder leadless devices with an exposed ground slug.

I have PCB design/schematic capture facilities, basic PCB manufacturing equipment and a small workshop. I have a well equipped laboratory with modern test equipment and antenna test facilities. For a simple design, I could draw up a circuit diagram, produce the PCB layout and make a prototype within 6 hours.

Many RF components need a serial data stream to control them. I write embedded code in assembler to drive synthesiser chips, LCD displays etc, and to provide general system control. A single SOT23 PIC can replace an entire board of logic and can be re-programmed once installed if modifications to the code are necessary.

I use the services of local engineering companies for mechanical design, machining, TIG welding, laser and water jet cutting and have access to an EMC test house nearby. Multilayer pcbs are supplied by companies such as PCB-train in Newbury or Beta Layout, both offering a rapid turnaround time when needed.

RF surveys are also carried out by my company, in particular for measuring interference to domestic TV services and microwave bearer links from Wind Farms.
